Motorcycle Transmission System

Motorcycle transmission system consists of primary deceleration, clutch, gearbox and secondary deceleration.



Primary Deceleration


The primary deceleration is mainly composed of active sprocket (active gear), sleeve roller chain and driven sprocket (driven gear) mounted on the crankshaft end, which acts as a primary deceleration and transfers engine power to the clutch.



Clutch


(1) The wet multi-disc friction clutch assembly is immersed in oil and operates in three parts: active, driven and separated. The power of the engine is driven by a sprocket gear drive drive drive hood, with grooves around the hood and friction discs (active discs) embedded with rubber and cork friction materials in the five features. The bumps on the outer edge are placed in the grooves of the active cover and rotated together as the active part of the clutch. Four steel followers are connected with the fixed basin of the follower through the inner teeth to form a follower part. The main and follower are staggered. The fixed basin is connected with the main shaft of the gearbox by an internal spline. Four clutch springs on the cover are pressed tightly against the friction plate and the follower to transmit power to the gearbox. The clutch is of constant engagement type. When the clutch handle is tightly pinched, the screw sleeve rotates in the left cover through the steel cable. The screw sleeve adjusts the screw to move to the right, pushing the separating push rod and cover, the spring pressure disappears, and the friction sign is separated from the follower.


(2) The automatic centrifugal clutch automatically controls the separation and engagement of the clutch according to the speed of the engine. The clutch is composed of active, driven and separating engagement mechanism. The active part is composed of clutch cover, thrust plate, clutch plate, etc. The driven part is composed of friction plate, central sleeve, etc. When the engine is running, the centrifugal force produced by the steel ball increases with the increase of the rotational speed. The axial force of the steel ball overcomes the tension of the separation spring and moves outward along the groove in the clutch cover. The clutch is in engagement state by pressing the thrust plate and pressing the clutch plate, and the friction sign. When the engine speed is reduced to idle or quench, the centrifugal force of the steel ball decreases or does not exist. The tension of the separation spring overcomes the centrifugal force of the steel ball so that the steel ball returns to its original position along the groove and the clutch is separated.


(3) Hoof-block automatic clutch. This structure is used in some Mini motorcycles. The active part is a fixed seat driven by a crankshaft. There are three shoe assemblies on the seat, which are connected to the fixed seat by a pin shaft. The spring pulls the shoe block toward the center of the crankshaft to keep a certain gap between the shoe plate of the shoe block assembly and the clutch disc of the driven part. When the rotational speed increases, the centrifugal force produced by the shoe block is larger than the pulling force of the spring, it will be thrown outward. When the centrifugal force reaches a certain value, it will engage with the clutch disc, generating friction to drive the driven part to rotate and transfer power.

 


Secondary Deceleration and Transmission


With the different types of motorcycle, there are three transmission modes: belt drive, chain drive and universal joint shaft drive. In Mini motorcycle, belt drive is used as rear drive device. The size of main and driven pulleys determines the secondary deceleration ratio. 


Generally, motorcycles use chain drive as rear drive. Chain drive, simple structure, fewer parts, easy to manufacture and repair. The output shaft of the gearbox has a rear drive sprocket and a driven sprocket on the rear wheel. The corresponding sleeve roller chain is used to transmit power. In motorcycles with high-power engines, the rear drive mode is universal joint shaft drive, and the rear wheel is equipped with a pair of helical bevel gears to reduce the speed at the funding level.
