What Is Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing

Grand Prix motorcycle racing, commonly referred to as the Moto GP, is one of the most important competitions in the motorcycle road race. It is hosted by the FIM, each of which is responsible for hosting each specific competition, and the specific management and the dispute arbitration are carried out by the Moto GP competition Committee Executive.

The History of Moto GP

Moto GP is the world's motorcycle highway championship formed by the FIM in 1949, a year earlier than F1, known as WGP at the beginning.  All competitions were held in Europe and there were only six races a year. There were 8 races in 1951 and 10 in 1961, and the competition increased Argentina's Buenos Aires station and entered South America. In 1964, American stations was added into the competition for the first time. Canada stations were added for the first time in 1967. In 1969, it was increased to 12 sub-stations. Throughout the 1970 s, competitions grew slowly, rising to 13 stations only in 1972. In the 1980s, the competition began to develop rapidly all over the world. The number of sub-stations increased to 15 in 1987 and 17 in 2005. The season began in April and ended in November.

The highest level of Moto GP from the mid-1970s to 2002 was limited to 500ml of four cylinders, whether two-stroke or four-stroke. As a result, all motorcycles were two-stroke to obtain greater power output under the given engine displacement. In 2002, the rules and the name were changed. The FIM renews the entire competition name as Moto GP and no longer WGP. Manufacturers have licenses to expand the total engine capacity of four-stroke motorcycles to 990 milliliters and to selectively use three to six cylinders.

In theory, 500 milliliters of two-stroke motorcycles have less power than 990 milliliters of four-stroke motorcycles. Soon we found that four-stroke motorcycles were obviously better than two-stroke motorcycles in any way. So in 2003, two-stroke motorcycles disappeared from the motorcycle GP class group, while 125ml and 250ml motorcycles used only two-stroke motorcycles.

Starting in 2007, motorcycles GP class locomotives will be limited to a maximum displacement of 800ml. The reason for the announcement is to take care of the safety of drivers, as the power output and maximum speed of GP motorcycles have grown fully since 2002.

The Competing Specifications of Moto GP

The Moto GP motorcycle is divided into three levels of GP125, GP250, and Moto GP according to the engine displacement, that is, there are three groups of competitions per station. Among them, the Moto GP group is transformed from GP500 upgrade, and the original 500ml two-stroke engines are converted into 990ml four-stroke engines.

Racing vehicles use motorcycles specially designed for racing, pursuing speed and paying attention to appreciation. The car weighs more than 145 kg and the motorcycle stand is made of aluminum or iron and the motorcycle wheel chock is better than before. The Moto GP class racing engine has a maximum output power of 169 kilowatts, a maximum speed of about 15000 rpm and a maximum speed of 340km / min.
