Fuel consumption is an important technical index to measure a motorcycle. In the actual driving process, motorcycles often encounter a variety of fuel consumption increases. Especially after a number of periods of motorcycle use, its fuel consumption will increase significantly, while the engine power will gradually decline. Generally speaking, under normal driving conditions, the fuel consumption of motorcycles is generally within the scope of vehicle technical standards, and due to changes in road driving conditions, slight errors are also normal. However, if the fuel consumption increases significantly, it may be the failure of vehicle parts. What are the reasons for the increase in motorcycle fuel consumption?
The role of the air filter is to prevent dust from entering the carburetor and cylinder. If damage occurs, dust will travel through the carburetor into the cylinder, causing abnormal wear of the cylinder and valve. At the same time, when the air filter is severely blocked by dirt, it causes problems of abnormal engine starting, insufficient power, and increased fuel consumption. Therefore, when the vehicle reaches a certain driving range, the air filter should be cleaned or replaced in time according to the regulations.
When cleaning the air filter element, it can be cleaned with neutral detergent. If the residual substance in the filter core is more serious, and it is rinsed after being soaked in the washing liquid for a while. After cleaning up the dirt, rinse it with clean water. However, the paper air filter element must not be immersed in water. It can be dedusted by hair dryer on the air inlet surface of the filter element. After washing, the filter element should be placed in a ventilated place to dry. After drying, a little lubricating oil can be dripped on the surface of the filter element and then restore the installation and use. If the installation is in the opposite direction, the air filter will not be able to filter and prevent dust.
When the handle throttle of motorcycle is increased during normal driving, it is found that the speedometer shows a significant improvement, but the actual feeling that the speed of the vehicle is not significantly increased, it is likely that the clutch will slip. The main causes of clutch slippage are as follows:
1)The free travel of clutch handle is out of control, and the pressure of clutch plate is too low to cause the slippage.
2)The clutch spring pressure is insufficient to cause slippage. For the clutch spring pressure is insufficient, usually due to the spring heating softening or clutch wear.
3) If the clutch handle controls the cable to get stuck in the jacket, or the ejector disengaging mechanism to get stuck, there will be clutch slippage problem, which is also the main reason for the increase of fuel consumption.
In view of the above problems, if the spring pressure is insufficient, a washer can be added to the spring sleeve to increase the spring pressure. If the spring becomes soft due to heating, a new spring should be replaced. Especially in some pedal motorcycles, once the slippage of the clutch block occurs, it will directly affect the maximum speed and the moment of uphill, causing a large loss of engine power transmission. And it will also cause the corresponding parts of the clutch to overheat, thus greatly increasing fuel consumption. The throttle handle can be properly increased during the specific inspection. If the speedometer shows that the engine speed increases in the case of rapid acceleration, but the speed of the motorcycle increases slowly, the slippage problem of the clutch can be quickly judged. The clutch plate, clutch pressure plate and driving wheel of the motorcycle should be replaced at the same time.
When the motorcycle travels 20,000km to 50,000 km or more, if the engine power is significantly reduced, the fuel consumption is increasing. Under normal circumstances, it may be that the engine piston ring wears and causes air leakage, which causes the cylinder to be under-pressurized.
The easiest way to check this is to remove the motorcycle bolt, then use your fingers to block the spark plug and step on the starting rod or press the electric start button. At this time, the finger should feel a strong sense of air pressure, and there is air flow from the finger seam. If the pressure is small or the finger easily blocks the spark plug, it means that the compression force of the cylinder is obviously insufficient. There is definitely a leak. The cause of the fault is generally that the valve is not tightly closed, or the excessive wear of the cylinder piston ring. The solution is to disassemble the engine and replace the piston ring and cylinder gasket by motorcycle tools.
In addition, when the jerry can or the junction of the cylinder produces air leakage, it will also cause the cylinder pressure to reduce and the power is insufficient, which will greatly increase fuel consumption. At the same time, if the engine has problems of overheating, excessive coke deposition in the muffler, slippage of clutch friction discs and insufficient tire pressure, it will also make the acceleration performance of the engine worse and the power is obviously insufficient.
Black smoke appears at the tail of exhaust pipe, which is mainly caused by incomplete combustion of engine in the working process. The main reasons are as follows:
1)The excessive concentration of combustible mixture.
2)The mismatch of the ratio of gasoline to engine oil in the mixture, or poor quality of engine oil.
3)The mismatch of oil pumps in some two-stroke engines, which results in the excessive oil supply.
4)The wear of oil rings in engine piston rings is serious or break, causing oil to enter the engine combustion chamber.
When the exhaust pipe often emits black smoke, it should first check whether the spark plug coke is serious, then check whether the air filter is blocked by dirt. Remove the spark plug to check the ablation condition of the middle electrode. If the black spot appears at the electrode, it can prove that the concentration is too strong, and the height of the carburetor needle can be adjusted. If the carburetor is cleaned without disassembly, it can be repeatedly sprayed to the inlet of the carburetor with the cleaning agent when the engine is to be idling after starting the engine. If the effect is not seen after several times of spraying, it may be that the internal fuel injection system of the carburetor is severely blocked and the oil level is too high. The carburetor must be disassembly for further cleaning and adjustment.
