A good quality chain is no less important for vehicles than qualified tires or even engines. As the key to linking the driving system and the power system, the chain is often ignored by many users.
The function of the chain is to connect the transmission sprocket (tooth disc) and the rear wheel tooth disc, to realize the transmission and conversion of power, so as to achieve the role of driving the vehicle forward. At present, the chains sold on motorcycles in the market are mainly precision roller chains. The general roller chains usually consist of inner/outer chain, link pins and rollers, while the oil seal chain has one oil packaged in the middle of two chains. Rollers mounted outside the pin are equivalent to a small bearing, which can counteract friction by rotating in contact with the dental disc. In addition to fixing the roller, the pin also acts as a fixed axis between the chains to realize the connection between the multi-section chains.
The commonly used chain basically has two kinds of oil seal chain and non-oil seal chain, and the difference between the two depends on whether the special lubricating oil is sealed between the roller and the pin, between the inner chain and the outer chain. The oil seal chain seals the lubricating oil between the friction parts through an O-ring or X-type oil seal ring in the middle of the inner and outer links to reduce frictional resistance and loss, and to prevent dust and debris from entering which to accelerate friction consumption. The traditional oil seal is an O-ring seal. However, this gasket will age and deform after prolonged extrusion, so it is developed into X-shaped, U-shaped, W-shaped and other shapes to reduce the impact of long-term deformation.
Like engine oil, chains also have their own models. According to the different requirements of motorcycles, the chains should also be used with their corresponding models. The label of the engine oil represents its adaptability to temperature and lubrication, while the label of the chain represents its size. For example, 428VX is the model of a chain. It is divided into three parts: 4-28-VX. 4 means that the distance between the two pins is 4/8 inches, and 28 means that the inner width of the chain (the distance between the two inner links) is 2.8/8 inches, and VX is the code name of its oil seal shape. This model determines whether the chain matches the occlusion teeth on the vehicle teeth and sprockets. In addition, there is another code to represent the length and connection of the chain. For example, the code 124ZB indicates that the chain consists of 124 sections, and the ZB is the connection mode of the chain. Generally speaking, motorcycle chains are divided into two types: shrapnel type and riveting type.
